Love come down

Has anyone else noticed that if you let him, God has this amazing way of using the unexpected 'little' things to teach the most important lessons? HT's new front doors are emblazoned with the message 'Love Come Down'. Another brilliant stunning idea from our artist in residence. And of course, in itself the absolute essence of the Christmas message - that in Jesus being born on earth God demonstrated the full extent of his love for us. But the thing is this - as a number of people have observed, the last letter N has been put on the wrong way round (the whole thing is meant to be back to front so it can be read from the street) but it is precisely this little 'mistake' that has spoken more to me this Christmas than anything else. Every time I see that backwards N it has reminded me that the whole thing is about being back to front - that the incarnation of God in Jesus is so wonderful because it isn't the way we would do things. As the evangelist J John puts it: 'God couldn't make himself any bigger to impress so he made himself as small as a baby to attract us'. So often I try to live the world's way round when what I need to be is God's way round - however back to front that may seem to those not travelling the same road.
Have a very Happy Christmas and a truly blessed 2010
Andrew

Love come down
Welcome Guest — Sat, 26/12/2009 - 5:02pmThank you Andrew for this observation. I have been pondering recently how we can so easily get into a rut of expecting God to speak to us in the same old way. I am sure he works with the way we commonly think; visually, aurally, pracatically etc but we need to be open to hear him in the unexpected and ordinary just as much. As we turn to the new year I hope we will all be surprised and challenged by WHO God sends to HT and I am looking forward to the new insights and direction we take as a result.
