Young, Autistic and Stagestruck
LIzbet001 — Tue, 13/04/2010 - 4:55pm
Last night Sean and I sat down to watch the first of four programmes that followed a group of 9 autistic youngsters who with the help of two artistic directors from the Lyric Theatre were putting on a show. The programme last night (C4 8pm) introduced the young people who are on various points of the spectrum (and believe me there are many points between the two poles!). Each of them brought their own unique perspective to the programme, as well as an understanding of their "disability" that was at times almost painful in its honesty.
It was interesting to listen to the parents as well, and their honesty over their hopes for their child as well as the sadness they felt that that person may never be independant.
If you get the chance to watch it please do. My sister texted me to say she found it enlightening. It is repeated on C4+1 at 9pm on Tuesday, and if you missed it this week and can record it, it is repeated this Friday 4.30 AM on C4 so set the recorder!
God bless,
Liz

Welcome Guest — Tue, 20/04/2010 - 4:04pmWow, this is turning into a unique opportunity to observe the full spectrum of higher functioning autism in one place. Even families that have autism rarely have this opportunity to step back and observe, so if you can (and even if you can't you should!) watch it!
Welcome to the exhausting but fascinating world of autism.
