Morning Light

I remember as if it were yesterday,
Those days in my childhood, when like Samuel, You called my name and I answered; “Here I am Lord”.
In the dawn light we would gaze upon each others faces And smile.
As the years passed our times together were pushed out.
No longer did I climb eagerly from my bedroom window, to feel your kiss upon my face.
It felt as if the light had been snuffed out, replaced by a darkness nothing could conquer.
Inside me I saw a tiny flickering flame, Blowing backward and forward in the breeze; Fragile, like a candle seen inside a church at night; A tiny thread held it there as the darkness tries so hard to swallow it up.
Slowly the flame has grown stronger.
Once again I rise to feel your kiss on my face; I open the door to see your reflected smile.
Obstacles may stand between us, blocking my view of you; Like St Paul, I see in a glass dimly, but one day my view will be that of a child; Unimpeded by obstacles in view Clear and glorious; Your light pouring out upon me, Warming, embracing.
The darkness will flee.
For as the Psalmist proclaims;
“darkness is as light to you”
What is reflected at me still shines brightly around me.
Just as looking into the sun blinds,
So I struggle to overcome the fear inside me of facing your light.
A child has no fear or understanding of these dangers They hear only the light and music in your voice and joyfully respond.
Age and experiences dull the sound;
Darkness claws at the light.
Your strength never fails,
Hope is never extinguished.
You raise us up like an eagle.
As an eagle soars high towards the light, So my soul yearns after your sun kissed warmth.
Light of the world:
Dispense the light of your presence throughout me; Cleanse the darkness.
My soul dances with joy in your light once again; And once again we stand and smile at each other.
Your kiss lights up my soul.

He said let there be light
And there was light
No failing lighter or broken matches
He said and it was so

Light was created so that man may see
After all he who walks in darkness cannot see the path he treads.
Light was to reveal him to us
He who IS the light and the way
His words a lamp to our feet
And his scripture our map and torch
So that rather than wandering lost
We may be found and saved
So offer up the darkness in your hearts
Gather your pain and bring it to him
May the flame that burns within you
Shine bright enough with love for him, to consume the shadows of your demons
As you lay it down and let him in,
Though we are afraid, we needn’t be
For a torch to help us uncover the certainties concealed within our darkest pain is already at our side
The emitted and the descended light,
Hallelujah
If only someone would remind me when I’m busying myself looking for my own box of matches
Scrabbling around in the dark, bumping into things and losing my way in my own mess
That it is not in my own strength but in HIS and his light
That I will see the answers I’m looking for
The light that man can only ever replicate: has already been created
It is the candle that’s already lit

So ironically may I say; in light of knowing this, may I ask of him to let my life be an ever breaking dawn for him
To break across the horizons of all those whose path I cross,
Let me shine boldly and unafraid of him and his promises,
So I may say to the world that his is the bulb that never blows,
His is the flame that never extinguishes,
The emergency generator that is always running ready for the realisation that you’re in the midst of a power cut
He is the sun that will never set in your sky before his plans for you are complete
And in this spark of hope
May we walk on
As candles lit from the same fire
Waiting to return, ashes to ashes
To the source from which we took our life
